the rich family album

"There is something really sweet and unforced that

happens when a family sings together.

It's unlike anything else and it happens when the Rich family sing.

You can tell that they're doing it because they love it." Buddy Miller

Who is this mysterious and talented clan?
Each member is independently known for their achievements in the entertainment industry and together they are a family force with charm and harmonies aplenty.

Noelene Rich
Chief ukulele strummer, band leader and Mum to Sherry and Rusty, Noelene's sparkling career has spanned 40 years. When Rock 'n Roll burst onto the scene, the bright eyed beauty was winning talent quests around country Queensland and teaching guitar to Elvis wannabees. She soon became a favourite on local TV and Radio, often sharing the bill with other young hopefuls, including BILLY THORPE and the BEE GEES. In the early 60's she toured with the REG LINDSAY show.
The seeds of the RICH FAMILY ALBUM were planted in the 1970's when a suddenly single Noelene moved her young family to the sleepy tropical Island resort, Bribie Island. Seven year old Sherry began joining her Mum on stage singing classic pop and country & western hits and voila! - the quintessential RICH FAMILY sound was created. Noelene is still winning fans with her shows on Bribie Island in Beautiful Queensland.

Sherry Rich
As teenagers Sherry and Rusty Rich discovered their Mum's cool country record collection and were hooked! In the mid '80's they played with the Brisbane band CACTUS FEVER, and then headed for Melbourne with guitar cases full of dreams to work as a duo. Sherry formed the infamous female rock foursome GIRL MONSTAR who topped the independent charts and terrorised the scene for four years. Then with her new band THE GRIEVOUS ANGELS, she mixed up a country rock cocktail, worked hard as a live act and released 3 e.p's and two albums in Australia and Europe before moving to the U.S. in 1997. After seven years living and working in Nashville TN, Sherry has returned to Melbourne Australia.

Rusty Rich
In the early 90's Rusty escaped from a kooky Melbourne barbershop quartet FOUR CHAIRS NO WAITING and joined the vegas style acapella group THE PHONES, a succesful cabaret and TV outfit. He then turned to musical comedy and became one half of the dynamic duo THE SCARED WEIRD LITTLE GUYS, who have now been favourites of the Australian television and comedy circuit for ten years as well as touring internationally to great acclaim. When he's in the neighbourhood, Rusty joins his sister Sherry onstage in Nashville, and on other weekends he may be found singing country classics in the band HOGBELLY MORTON'S COUNTRY REVIEW or relaxing at his rural retreat in Barwon Downs, Victoria.

Rick Plant
Also known as Ricky Rich or Mr. Sherry Rich, Rick was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and studied at the Berklee College of Music. Since relocating to Nashville in 1991, he has been in high rotation as a session guitarist and bassplayer, picking with luminaries such as BUDDY AND JULIE MILLER, ALLISON MOORER, JIM LAUDERDALE, and EMMYLOU HARRIS. In 1998 fate threw him into the path of Sherry Rich and they were married in Melbourne in January 2000 (Yes, the Rich Family sang at the wedding). Thus making him the newest member of THE RICH FAMILY Band.

This album was recorded mostly live for the sake of posterity and a yearning to capture
the loveliness of 'kin singing with kin' during a week or two in Dec '99 & Jan 2000 at the
deluxe and tastefully decorated Yikesville Studio in Yarraville, Victoria and engineered
ever so lovingly and patiently by our mate and honorary Rich kid Shane O'Mara.
'Still Going Strong' was recorded and mixed by Rick Plant at Little Black Dog Studio,
Nashville, USA. The whole dang thing was mastered by Jim Demain at Yes Master,
Nashville, USA. Tracks 1 & 15 Noelene and Sherry recorded direct to 2-track cassette
at Bay Vue flats South Esplanade Bribie Island, QLD.1972.

I gotta have it!
